Fix Winsock:

(The PC may connects to the local network, but cannot browse the Internet)

1. Start > RUN > regedit

  • Delete the following registry keys

[HKLM]\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Winsock
[HKLM]\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\WinSock2
[HKLM]\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\Winsock
[HKLM]\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\WinSock2

(There should be no Winsock entries under [HKLM]\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ but check anyhow)

2. Network Connection Properties

  • Delete the “Client for Microsoft Networks”
  • Restart computer

3. Network Connection Properties

  • Install the “Client for Microsoft Networks”
  • Install TCP/IP stack on top of itself (from C:\Windows\inf)
  • Restart computer. This will recreate the Winsock registry entries and IE should work
